Koshirakura Landscape Workshop

Watermelon Place is the site of a natural spring in the village of Koshirakura, Niigata District, Japan.

Our proposal lifts the reclaimed timber basin to a height for washing and drinking on a pedestal of insitu cast concrete. The outer structure offers villagers and travellers shade and places to rest in the summer, and the basin protection from the heavy snow and ice over the winter.

Watermelon Place was opened by the Mayor of Koshirakura in Summer 2012.
